California banned sweepstakes casinos through Assembly Bill 831, signed by Governor Gavin Newsom on October 11, 2025. The law took effect January 1, 2026.

Connecticut banned sweepstakes casinos through Public Act 25-112 (Senate Bill 1235), enacted in June 2025.

Idaho’s gambling statute, which prohibits unlicensed gaming activity with prize redemption, has long been interpreted to block sweepstakes casinos. Operators block Idaho IPs or block Sweeps Coin redemption for Idaho players.

Montana banned sweepstakes casinos through Senate Bill 555, the first explicit US sweepstakes ban. Signed by Governor Greg Gianforte on May 12, 2025, the law took effect October 1, 2025.

New York banned sweepstakes casinos through Senate Bill 5935-A (S5935A), signed by Governor Kathy Hochul on December 5, 2025. The law took effect immediately and shut down what had been one of the largest sweepstakes casino markets in the US.

Washington classifies online gambling transmission as a Class C felony under RCW 9.46.240. The 2018 Washington Supreme Court ruling in Kater v.
