Play Smart, Play Safe

Optimizing your play is part of the hobby. Recognizing when play stops being a hobby is the other part. This page is for both. Especially the second.

Social casinos aren't income

No social casino is a way to make money. The mathematics of the dual-currency model and the redemption structures involved make this true in a way that doesn’t have exceptions. If you’re playing to recover losses, pay a bill, or supplement income, stop. Talk to someone trained for this. Real help below.

Warning signs

Patterns worth paying attention to — not any one of these on its own, but several over time

  • You think about playing when you’re not playing.
  • You’re playing longer or spending more than you intended, more than occasionally.
  • You’re hiding play, spend, or outcomes from people close to you.
  • Play interferes with sleep, work, or relationships.
  • You feel restless, anxious, or irritable when you’re not playing.
  • You play to escape feelings rather than to enjoy yourself.
  • You’re chasing losses.

Practical steps

Set limits before you play

Deposit limits, session limits, and reality-check prompts are available on every reputable platform. Set them at account creation, not when you’re already over budget. Limits set in advance are far easier to keep.

Self-exclude on the platform

Every platform we cover offers self-exclusion — typically 24 hours to permanent. Our reviews note where to find the controls on each platform.

Talk to someone trained

The National Council on Problem Gambling runs a 24/7 helpline. Free, confidential.

  • Call: 1-800-GAMBLER
  • Text: 800GAM
  • Chat: ncpgambling.org/chat

State-specific helplines are listed on the relevant state guides.

Block at the payment layer

Most US banks and card networks let you block gambling and social-casino transactions at the account level. Usually free, usually reversible only after a delay. The delay is the point.

Worried about someone else

Gam-Anon (gam-anon.org) supports families and friends. The NCPG helpline also takes calls from family members.

Age restriction

All platforms we cover require players to be 18 or older. Some require 21+ in certain states. Underage play violates platform terms and, in many states, applicable law.
